NZ3 - the wedding

Posted on Friday 15 December 2006

The entire house were up early to get ready for our friends’ big day. The very reason why we were on the other side of the globe. All the showers were quick. It wasn’t only because we needed to hurry to get ready, but the water on the island was saved from the rain. Jin, Jesse, Debbie & I were in one unit with one washroom and one kitchen sink. Suprisingly, we managed with no trouble.

Everyone had a role assigned to make the wedding looking good and running smoothly. Jin was the manager running the schedule, and John was the floor manager directing people, assigning tasks and ensuring things ready to roll according to schedule. I had two missions that day - decoration and be one tough “sister” to challenge the groom.

I had fun doing the flower arrangement for the wedding arch and chairs on the aisle’s side. The couple gave us clear design direction on the wedding arch - no greens, no obvious joints showing, purple orchid at front. It was not until that morning did I finally get to see the actual white & purple orchids and the arch. With the vision session I had last night and all the available materials in front, the decoration team acted very quickly and assemble all the things together. I felt honoured and happy that I could help out to make my friend’s big day special.
The couple did a fabulous job on designing their wedding day in fine details - venue, food, decoration, schedule …

The weather was beautiful - the sun was out with bright blue sky and just enough fluffy white clouds added some interest. It was a bit windy, but it wasn’t too cold. The good weather was like a blessing for the couple as we had not had good weather, and some very bad weather later in the trip.

The dinner was one of the very best meal I had in wedding, and for sure the best meal I had in this trip. The dinner had four courses, and each pair with a wine to compliment the food. I couldn’t resist not to drink the wine with the risk that my face may go super red. To my own suprise, I didn’t have the monkey’s butt red face, felt fine, and enjoyed each wine more than just a sip. Before we sat down at the table, we had appetiser and champgain or apple cider while we waited for everyone’s arrival. We had live band playing soft jazz while chatting with others and knowing some other guests. My favourite appetiser that evening was the fresh oyster. It was not only because they are delicious, but allowed me to eat more like a lady. I tried one little roast beef burger as one of their appetise options. I couldn’t bite it off in two, but to shove it all into my mouth. I was mouth full with good amount of sauce on either sides of my mouth. I tried to cover my mouth with both hands with a napkin. I tried to be more like a lady, and lesson I learnt - pick my own size.

After the delicious dinner, we all went to the living room for the cake cutting ceremony. The groom’s father gave an animated and light humour speech in most groom’s expenses. To end the night, the bride gave me her bouquet hoping this will give me the good luck. I hope there will be that one day for me giving my bouquet to bless another.
