Football & Soccer

Posted on Friday 7 July 2006

I have always thought and assumed that the North American people invented the word Soccer, just because that’s what we call here, and football is the sport that majority of the time holding the ball and trying to run away from people to the finish line without dropping it. Here, I found out it was a Brit that invented the word soccer as an abbreviation for association football. I can’t see that in there, but whatever he said. I can’t argue since it was invented in 1880s.

I was trying to be creative and figure how the word came about … I thought, will it be “Socker”?!?! since they wear long socks and place their shin guard? Maybe at one time they play all naked and just with their socks … that may just be it!
