Seattle

Posted on Sunday 13 November 2005

This Remembrance long weekend, I went to Seattle to visit my friends Thao and John who just recently moved there. The last time I saw them was almost 2 years ago in London. Thao is carrying their baby boy, Isaac, who will come soon around December. I am very excited for them.

It is not my first time to Seattle, but I never had the time to see the city. For the two times I have been, I basically drove thru the city. Therefore, this is my first time seeing Seattle. In addition, Thao and John showed me a little bit of Bellevue, where Isaac will be born and their future home =)

In Seattle, there are two buildings that I have been longing to see – Experience Music Project and Seattle Public Library. I am very happy that I did, and I will write more about them later. On top of that, Thao brought me to see the Pike Public Market – fresh seafood, fresh veggies, fruits, fresh bakery … all things are so fresh and I just love it!

Besides sightseeing, for the two nights I was there I cooked. It was fun cooking. I only wish I know how to cook better. John and Thao are very nice that they ate everything I cooked. One fun thing we did was crab. I never cleaned or killed crab myself. I watched my uncle did once almost 15 years ago, and I asked my mom how she did it the last time we had crab (I was bad. I didn’t help or watch). It wasn’t as easy as my mom told me. At the end, I managed. It wasn’t a very nice thing to do – I killed two live crabs. The taste was good and fresh, and for all the hard work, I guess it is all worth it?!?.

Going home was a smooth drive. I stopped by the Seattle Premium outlet mall and got myself few pairs of sandals in very good price (too bad I will have to wait for warmer weather to wear them =p). I tried to look for other stuff, but I couldn’t find anything I like. Mostly, I wasn’t really in the mood of shopping, so I basically just ran in and out of the stores very quickly. Just because, I just can’t pass by the outlet mall that everyone has been telling me about. For the record, I was there.

I wish all the luck to Thao of delivering Isaac. I know they will do great! I look forward to see them again in June. In the meanwhile, I will learn few more good Asian dishes for my next visit to the Blanchard family.
