Travel in style to Santa Monica

Posted on Monday 10 October 2005

Working in a growing city like in Vancouver is interesting. It is big, but not big enough to have a nice furniture showroom like in some real big cities. A system furniture manufacturer invited 8 designers from Vancouver and flew us down to Santa Monica to see their show room. Of course, packaging, impression and experience are very important, especially getting us out from the office for almost day and a half. I knew it will be something good, and it was very cool.

First time in my life, I know what is travel in style – flying in a private jet. My co-worker and I arrived to the private jet lounge to wait for our departure. Our host has everything organised already. No checking in, no questions like if we packed our bag ourselves, we just waited in the lounge around until the jet parked at the door for us to walk over.

Seating layout in the private jet is different than my regular plane experience. They don’t all face one direction. The layout is more social. The interior is luxurious. Big leather seats that not only adjust the seat back, but they can turn as well. Washroom is twice the size of the regular one. I can actually turn inside without bum into anything. The washroom floor is carpeted. I don’t know if it is a good idea. The cockpit is open that we can go talk to the pilots at anytime, and check out the front view.

Although flying with a private jet, yet the immigration custom officer still would need to see our passport. The different is, we waited in our seat inside the plane for the officer to come and check our passport with a smile and wish us a good day. As we were getting off the plane, our black Limos were there taking our luggage to the car and welcome us aboard.

The hotel we stayed isn’t big, but it is for sure modern and chic. I love the design of the lobby. Before the group headed out for dinner, we had an hour and half to see Santa Monica on our own. We were right by the pier / shore. It was dark at that time, but I can see the city is beautiful, at least the area we were staying is. The next day during the day time only showed me how much more I like the city. Santa Monica is beautiful.

The showroom is beautiful and inspiring. The architect did a great job of the building / interior making their office furniture so much sexier. Leaving space between each product section for people to admire the pieces and absorb what they just saw is much nicer trying to cram everything in – like art gallery. Furniture do have more than just their looks, there are many science behind it, but I won’t get into details.

After the showroom finished in the early afternoon, we had lunch, then 30 minutes of free time of walking around before we got picked up again to our private jet and flew back to Vancouver.

Santa Monica is beautiful, and I would love to go back there again to visit, but I know I won’t be going back there “in style” like this time.

There are pictures, but I need to find a home first … I am now homeless.
