My world round tour has finally over, and yet there are many places that I haven’t seen and would love to visit them some time in the future. I am back home with my family in Vancouver for almost a month already. This time I am staying home for good after I left home for 13 years. Visiting home and settling back in are very different. I have no private room and no closet space. My mom is cleaning up her closet and giving me some room as I am now sharing a room with her. I am enjoying the unconditional love from my family =)
I can’t claim I am staying home for good if I don’t have a job. I found work in Vancouver as an interior designer, and I just finished my first week. It was a record for me finding work this quickly and it is a company I want to work for. I emailed my resume on Sunday, got replied on Monday, interview on Tuesday and started working on the following week. I feel very lucky. I didn’t know if the company is looking for people. I only know that it is one of the good interior design firms in Vancouver, and I want to work for them. Of course, it really helps that I found out my ex-boss knows the company prior to sending out my resume and he gave me good reference.
Vancouver weather has been very nice since the day I started working and it is looking very nice this weekend. It made me feel that I had a good start. Vancouver is a city I called home, but really, I had only spent 4 years here before I moved to Toronto for my school and career. Now that I am finally returned, and a promise to my dad can be finally fulfilled. I am looking forward to know the city better, enjoyed the beautiful nature that it is famous for, and make myself comfortable here like home.
Hey, Kat. Congrats on your return to Vancouver! I keep checking Vancouver weather and news from way over here, and I’m so insanely jealous how nice the weather must be over there! Make sure you treat Vancouver as if you were a tourist, and do all the things that are around, but that locals never seem to do because it’s too “touristy”. I wish I had toured Vancouver “properly” when I was still there — the surrounding regions have so much in store! Best of luck at your new firm!
Agreed. I don’t know what I missed until I left the city. I will try to learn more about the nature side of Vancouver. I think that is what makes Vancouver beautiful. I am sure you can tour Vancouver the next time you visit. Let us know when you will be back next time. We can gather few people and make a Vancouver tour just for you =)
Good to hear you have a nice landing in VAN and you just remind me of my home Boston. I wish your lucky stars always be with you. and I miss you very much and hope to see you soon.
Yeah, I hardly did any of the outdoor stuff when I was at UBC. I really missed the city during the years I was away. When I first came back, I sworn to try everything at least once, well… almost everything.
Although I’m feeling a bit of wanderlust and desperately want to travel again.
Hi Kathryn, I was looking for work in Vancouver as an Interior Designer, and I came to your site. I noticed that you found a job quickly? I am moving there soon and I am worried about finding a job. Any advice??
Cheers, Brandy
Hi Brandy, try going to IDIBC site, which you can find out the local interior design companies in Vanouver. I think there is a section for jobs as well, but I am not sure. It is not very popular in N. America to use agencies / job hunter, so the old method of faxing / emailing your resume will be the method I know. The city is very busy with many construction happening. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find jobs in Vanoucver if you have the experience. Good luck!
