Canada is the Champion of the World Cup Hockey!

Posted on Thursday 16 September 2004

A news that I am sure most people have already known (besides Asia), Canada won the World Cup! Kevin, his 2 friends from Vancouver, 2 Finns, and I went to Maple Leafs Pub in London to watch the final - Canada vs. Finland. It was a good game. It was my first time in a pub to watch a final of any sorts, but this game in this pub was very special. Many Canadian gathered in the only Canadian pub in London cheering for our home team. The spirit was high. Many people wore the Canadian hockey jerseys, or Canadian NHL team jerseys. I had Kevin’s red cap with Canada on.

For the national anthem before the game started, we all stood up and sang along with all the Canadian in the game in the TV. It was patriotic. I felt we are all being very proud of being Canadian. In between each period, the pub would play some Canadian theme songs and the o, Canada again. I felt it was a little too much, but it didn’t stop the people singing along. It was great that we won, and we all sang ‘We are the champion!’.

Our Finns friends and others Finns in the pub were disappointed with the result, but they all think that Canada is a good friendly country, and Canadians are great.

I was a very proud Canadian that night!
