WoW - World of Warcraft

Posted on Sunday 11 July 2004

This is what I have been doing for the past month and a bit, besides being really busy at work. It has been a great way for me to forget work when I get home, but it didn’t stop me from getting home late from work.

Kevin has been a great support to me in every way. I have never thought I would go back to gaming. A few years ago, I wasn’t interested in playing video games at all. Or, maybe I just haven’t found anything that interested me. With Kevin’s connections, we got ourselves into the beta test of WoW. Kevin was very excited to try this game out. Better yet, his friend got me an account as well. His friend knew if the other half didn’t play or could not play, the one who could and wanted to play won’t have an easy time, or a happy life. The benefit of us playing together is that Kevin has to work while I am at work. Otherwise, I would probably get upset if he got ahead of me. If that happened, I know I just wouldn’t play at all, and Kevin will have a hell time playing … if I even let him.

So, things worked out fine, we are both playing. We spend time together sitting next to each other playing the game at the same time. Kevin taught me how to play better, since I didn’t bother spending time to learn how to play properly at the beginning. Now that I’ve got the hang of that, and more interest in it, I find myself more willing to read the about the new moves or the shorter quests.

The first impression I got from the game was their graphics. The world that they created is just - wow. Then, I started to appreciate the complexity of the game: races, classes, trades …. It is just a little world of its own. I don’t see or play enough of other games to make a good judge, but I enjoy playing WoW. I can see how it can be addictive.

Somehow I got the idea that only teens play video games, and I thought we would be one of the few older people in the game. I was wrong. It is true that there are many young people playing, but there are also many players in their 30s - with family and kids. All of a sudden, I don’t feel like a minority.

Now my work has eased down a little, I should go out and do something else, and not just sit at home. The past friday was good. We went to see Shrek 2. I really enjoyed that. I can’t wait to see Spiderman 2. It hasn’t been released in London yet, but it’s coming soon. (sigh..)

Haha, my other half was at one time obsessed with AoE - Age of Empires - along with the rest of his office. Everyday at 4:30PM, about 6 of them would play over their office network. And you wonder why the company went under ….

You’re really up on your movies, despite the delayed release in London! I haven’t even seen LoTF2! <Head hung in embarrassment>
