St. Paul’s Cathedral

Posted on Sunday 13 July 2003

A famous London church which many of us have seen it on TV when Princess Diana walked down the aisle to marry Prince Charles in 1981, is part of the Architecture + History Walk at the Riverside London. Kevin and I followed the map of the walk walking from the East starting from the Oxo Tower to the Tate Modern, crossed the Millennium Bridge to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Seeing the St. Paul’s Cathedral from the Millennium Bridge seems that the bridge is leading us right into it. The modern steel structure has an interesting contrast to the ancient stone built sacred place.

Currently, St. Paul’s Cathedral is under restoration. The project is 5 years long, and it is scheduled to be completed by 2005. There are many parts of the exterior and interior of the church is covered for the restoration, but it is still a popular tourist site. There is an admission charge to visit the church, but it is free when you attend to their service as a prayer. Kevin and I attended to their Sunday Coral Evensong. Their choir was phenomenal. After the service, we walked around a little and visited the crypt. We read the articles and pictures posted on the walls learned their restoration project, and history of the church.
