This is a very late report for my Greece trip, which I should have it done a month ago. (so….once upon a time..=p) 3 days after my arrival to UK, after my terrible experience with the UK immigration, and after Kevin and I moved to our new flat….it is a perfect time for a break to a sunny beach, and a nice tan. Through Kevin’s friend: Jeremy, Kevin and I joined him and his classmates and his professor from LSE, nearly 30 people of a group for the Greece trip. It began with our evening flight from London to Athens airport arrived at 4 am, the group met up and took a bus (2 hrs) to the ferry port. After 4 hours of ferry ride arrived at Paros and 30 minutes of hotel shuttle bus ride, we were finally at our little hotel right by a small beach at 1 pm, and exhausted. For the six days staying in Paros, our daily routine was getting up in late morning, went for a long breakfast, and then found a beach getting some tan while we were napping….in the late afternoon, between naps, we would have our late lunch, and play some Frisbee. Before the sun set, we would be back to the hotel for shower, and then hang out with the group for some drinks and snacks before our 10 o’clock dinner. Last, we will go to a bar for some drinks and dancing until 3am. Besides visiting different beaches on the island, we did a tour of a small town called Lefkes (inland and no beaches closed by), and scuba diving (my first time).
After we left the island, we stayed at Athens for two days. The city is under construction / restoring for the coming 2004 summer Olympics. Our first night at Athens, we had a tradition meal feast at an ancient décor restaurant. The portion for each dish is big, really big. Of course we didn’t miss visiting the Acropolis, ancient markets, church on hilltops….
Greek food: Souvlaki and Gyros are everywhere. I really enjoyed the Gyros. Tomato is very sweet in Greece, which makes their famous Greek salad another of my favourite. New Greek food that I learned from the trip is: Greek yogurt (very thick and rich in taste) with honey and fruit, and iced coffee called frappe, are very common and popular in Greece but I have never seen that on the menu in Greek town, Toronto.
Weather was great for the entire trip…sunny the whole time. The only “bad” day we had was having a few clouds in the sky. June is not the peak season for visiting Greece. Therefore, it was very nice that city and the island weren’t that crowed, and the temperature hadn’t reached to their peak yet, but that’s maybe why we found the water was a little too cold to get in. The city was much hotter than the island; I guess it has to do with the pollution.
