More beach and sun

Completing my Austin trip, Kevin took me to his yearly event with his friends to South Padre Island for a weekend. It is approximately a 6 hours normal speed drive from downtown Austin going south closed by the American-Mexican border to our destination. A group of 8 people was split in two cars. Brian was our captain of our ’ship’, and Jonathan was our navigation officer. Kevin and I were the crew member. Our captain and navigation officer are both very good singer, and very often the captain would do some free style to make the song suit better to our journey. Our captain is highly skilled controlling his ’ship’ to shorten our travel time to 4.5 hours to the destination. The crews had a very easy and relaxing time at the journey. I spend most time reading my new Harry Potter book, and nap =p.

After the group had arrived at South Padre Island and dropped our stuff at our hotel, we went to the beach. The beach was not as crowd as I expected, since the hurricane Claudette just left. The sand at the beach was very packed. We suspected that the city impacted the sand for the hurricane. The sand was very fine and smooth. Water was at the right temperature, not cold, which was awesome! Wave was a little big which made it more fun playing with the waves….although it was more dangerous. Others activities we had on the beach were Frisbee, smashball and reading. Kevin and I spend quite a bit of time testing our new digital camera. It was a different experience comparing to the Greek Islands, and I enjoyed both of them very much.

My highlight of my food adventure of this trip was the pizza joint that is also a piano bar. There was a pianist playing song upon audience’s request. During the time we were not eating, we enjoyed ourselves singing at our seats out loud with the music that the pianist was playing. It was fun.

After dinner, we went back to our hotel and played some card / group games: hearts, pit, fluxx and mafia. The boys played one more card game: citadels, but it is too boyish, so I skipped the game and continued with my Harry Potter book. It was my first time played all of those games just mentioned. Again, it was fun.

Just by the end of our 2nd night at the Island, Shel’s car had some problem. We were all worried about how the group was going to go home as some of the people had to be home by the next day afternoon, and where to fix the car as most of the autoshop don’t open on Sunday. As Sunday morning came, we drove to the nearest town to the shop that we found on the phone book, and the car was fixed in the few hours time while we found ourselves a restaurant for some breakfast. It just added a little twist to our adventure, but no sweat!

Two days at South Padre Island, we spend most of the time at the beach playing with the waves and smashball…and more Harry Potter for me =p. On our departure from the trip, Kevin and I went back to the same ’ship’ with the same crew members cruising back to Austin, when others decided to visit Mexico. Another happy journey =D
